Quick answer: 7R and 14R are two sizes of moving head beam light. Our 7R uses a 230W lamp and suits halls and mid-size stages. Our 14R uses a 295W lamp and suits large venues and open-air stages. A 7R pair with a flight case is Rs 155,000 (Rs 130,000 without the case). A 14R pair with a flight case is Rs 175,000, or Rs 82,500 for a single 14R on jdnonline.lk. JDN does not sell 18R beam lights.
Ask anyone shopping for stage lights and they'll tell you the same thing: the lights look great in the videos, but the codes are confusing. 7R, 13R, 14R, 18R, 230W, 295W. Sellers use them as if everyone already knows. So let's go through them one at a time, over a cup of tea.
7R, 14R, 13R and 18R: which is which
- 7R: our 7R uses a 230W lamp. It packs beam, wash and frost effects into one head, with a 1.2-degree beam that opens to a 30-degree frosted wash. A good all-rounder for halls, ballrooms and mid-size stages.
- 14R: our 14R uses a 295W lamp. It is the light for big rooms, high ceilings and open-air venues, where the beam has to reach the far end.
- 13R: a different model from the 14R. You will see it on other sellers' pages and in Google searches. JDN sells the 14R.
- 18R: JDN does not sell 18R beam lights. When customers asked for one earlier this year, Mr Jayantha, JDN's owner, answered in three words: "18R stock over."

Lamp watts vs power draw
A beam light has two watt figures:
- Lamp watts: the rating of the lamp itself. Our 7R uses a 230W lamp, our 14R a 295W lamp.
- Power draw: what the whole light takes from the wall socket. It adds the motors, fans and electronics, so it is always higher than the lamp figure.
A real example from our catalogue: the product page for the 120W Moving Head Beam Light lists a total power of 150W. The bigger heads are heavy too. Our 14R weighs about 13 kg, so hang it from a strong truss or stand.
When you plan an event, add up the power draw of every light, not the lamp watts. Our moving heads accept 90–240V, so they run on Sri Lanka's normal 230V supply. For several large heads, use separate circuits. Tell us what you're running and we'll help you work it out.

7R and 14R prices: pairs and single lights
Most customers buy beam lights in pairs, one for each side of the stage. These are Mr Jayantha's pair prices:
- 7R pair with a flight case: Rs 155,000. This is what the Moving Head 7R ( 230W) with a Flight case listing on our site covers.
- 7R pair without the case: Rs 130,000.
- 14R pair with a flight case: Rs 175,000.
- Single 14R: Rs 82,500 on jdnonline.lk.
A flight case is a padded hard box that protects the lights on the road. If you move your lights every weekend, it pays for itself.
The smaller lights: 100W, 120W and spider lights
Not every event needs a 7R or 14R. The 100W and 120W moving heads are smaller and lighter. We call the 100W our mini moving head. Mobile DJs like these because they are easy to carry and quick to set up.
A spider light has a row of small 8 × 3W LED heads that fan out many thin beams at once. One version adds two lasers. Spider lights are the simplest way to add movement to a smaller event.

Before you hang them
- Clamps. Every light needs a clamp to hang safely from a truss or pipe. Add Clamps (Rs 875) or Heavy duty clamps for lighting (Rs 850) to your order.
- DMX control. Our moving heads, spider lights and PAR lights all take DMX. The DMX 512 192Channel Controller (Rs 8,600) runs up to 12 lights and saves your scenes and chases. The 120W uses 12 DMX channels and comes with one DMX cable.

Where we've used the 14R
Three of our 14R moving heads light the sky over the crowd at Banana Republic, an open-air venue in Ahangama built for more than 1,000 people. Read the Banana Republic installation story.
